Oliver McConnie

In my work I explore the concept of the grotesque and carnivalesque. I’m interested in Mikhail Bakhtin’s theory, that the grotesque image is ambivalent and represents the defeat of fear by laughter. I have taken this idea on into my own artistic practice and I attempt to show the ambivalent nature of the grotesque image.

Ryuta SUZUKI

Ryuta Suzuki’s works primarily explore uncertainness of life. His unique technique, “photo woodcut,” combines traditional Japanese print with photoshoped images and brings subtle-photographical-woodprint images. It investigates the identity of visuals and life, as well as a relationship between traditional and contemporary methodology. Then, his works seeks cognitive term of existence and absence.
